 History Minimize

The Mobile Bar Association is one of the oldest bars in America. Mobile lawyers have been leaders in professional, civic, and charitable projects for more then 250 years. Mobile Bar Association projects such as the pro bono program, have won state and nation-wide recognition.

With such a history of generosity and love of the legal profession it was just a matter of time before the Bar members took the next step and established the Mobile Bar Foundation in 1994.

Mobile Bar Foundation, Inc.

The Mobile Bar Foundation was organized in 1994 and is exempt from payment of income taxes under Section 501(c)(3) of the IRS Code, so that contributions to it are tax deductible.  The Foundation is funded primarily by dues paid by the members of the Mobile Bar Association, the oldest Bar Association in the State of Alabama and the 13th oldest in the entire United States.  The purpose of the Foundation is to accumulate sufficient funds to be used for the betterment and good of our community and for the good of the profession.  The primary focus of the foundation since its inception is to provide funds for the operation of the Volunteer Lawyer Program of the Mobile Bar Association to provide free legal services for those who cannot afford same and deserving, qualified local agencies and organizations such as:  Big Brothers, Big Sisters, Boys and Girls Clubs, Catholic Social Services, CONTACT Mobile, Ozanam Charitable Pharmacy, Girl Scouts, Habitat for Humanity, Boy Scouts, Ronald McDonald House, The Shoulder, United Cerebral Palsy and United Way of Southwest Alabama.  Since its organization, the Foundation has given a total of $426,486.00 to such worthy agencies and organizations.

The present goal of the Foundation is to continue its financial contributions to those agencies serving the needy and deserving people of our community, as well as to provide free legal services to those in our community who cannot afford to pay for same.  The Foundation is also engaged in a campaign to increase its resources by seeking contributions from not only lawyers and law firms but also other public-spirited individuals or businesses.  Contributions should be made payable to Mobile Bar Foundation.
